Sheff Wed agree ‘deal’ for £3.15m-rated man, club ‘confirm’ 25 y/o has ‘extended loan’

Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a ‘deal’ for Josh Murphy to stay at Hillsborough until the end of the season. The Owls confirm that the 25-year-old has ‘extended’ his ‘loan’ for another month. Murphy hit form during the tail-end of his debut campaign and wanted to feature in Wednesday’s remaining seven games, so Murphy will be available for all of July.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

The former England U21 international joined the Owls on a season-long loan last summer and has gone on to make 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals with three assists. Murphy got off to a slow start in 2019/20, scoring just once in his first 10 league appearances, but he’s since contributed seven goals in the 22 games that followed.

The £3.15m-rated player has featured in each of the Owls’ last 16 league games, so he’s an important player for Garry Monk. The Wednesday boss has managed to retain Adam Reach, Kadeem Harris, Alessio Da Cruz and Murphy for the run-in, so Wednesday aren’t short of attacking options.

The Owls are currently 13th in the Championship with 52 points from 39 games, having won one and drawn one of their last two ahead of Wednesday night’s clash with West Bromwich Albion.
