“Terrible”, “Worth a punt” – A lot of fans are torn whether Sheff Wed should sign 28 y/o

|

Sheffield Wednesday could lose up to four wingers this summer (Jack Stobbs, Jacob Murphy, Alessio Da Cruz and Adam Reach) and will have to scour the transfer market for replacements.

Vital Sheff Wed have suggested Sammy Ameobi could be an option as he’s impressed at Nottingham Forest and could be available on a free transfer this summer.

A lot of supporters from Sheffield Wednesday Fans Forum and Sheffield Wednesday’s private group can’t agree whether the Owls should make a move, however.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Nathan Johnson: “We keep getting linked with ageing players that will want decent-sized contracts but will hold little or no sell-on value. This is where we went wrong a few years ago. Personally, I don’t think Chansiri will make that mistake again.”

Jay Isherwood: “He’s in his prime right now! Just the type of player we could do with right now, enough experience with age on his/our side for the next couple of years.”

Nathan Gore: “Yes. Always the stand out player for every team he has played for when playing against us.”

Josh Foulstone: “I’d take him. Personally think we need another winger – Reach is too inconsistent and Harris hasn’t done anything for a while, so it’s time to freshen up a bit. (Ameobi) still has years left and is still pacey.”

Mark B. Johnson: “He is not what we should be looking at.”

Jonathan Walker: “He’s exactly what we need. We’ve no money to spend, so how we gonna get proven players and proven scorers is beyond me. Last 3-4 years he’s done well. Scores a few (goals) and (is) creative. Defo worth a punt.”

Richard Couldwell: “No (we shouldn’t sign him).”

Callum Dotty: “He’s terrible.”

Ted Fowler: “He’s a very good player but lucky to get a third of a season out of him.”

Nathan Fletcher: “No (we shouldn’t sign him).”

Callum Dotty: “Terrible.”

Ben Ridley: “Been one of Forest’s best players this season.

David Wilcock: “Again, he’s ok, but at 28 he has no resale value in a few years time.”

Ameobi joined Forest on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers last summer and has gone on to make 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and making eight assists.

The 28-year-old has created 31 chances, made 78 successful dribbles, had 57 shots and whipped in 79 crosses, so he could be a useful player next season. Ameobi can operate out wide and up front too, so he’s versatile.

Some fans think he’s worth signing while others don’t want to see him at Hillsborough. But with Stobbs being released, Murphy to return to Newcastle, Da Cruz likely to return to Parma and Reach underperforming, Wednesday need at least one winger to come in.

Time will tell if they make a move for Ameobi, however.
