Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy has recalled on-loan Wednesday striker Daryl Murphy to the North-East with immediate effect.

The Irishman had a 24-hour recall clause in his contract with the Owls, and will return to the Black Cats tommorow in time for their Boxing day clash.

The move leaves Wednesday even more desperate for strikers ahead of the busy christmas period, with Lee Peacock, David Graham, Barry Corr, and the on-loan Gaby Agbonlahor left for selection.

Agbonlahor has failed to net since joining the Owls on loan from Aston Villa, as has Barry Corr. David Graham and Lee Peacock have managed just four goals between them in the league.

Murphy made four appearances for the Owls but failed to score a goal. The closest he came was last weekend when he had a tame effort cleared off the line.
