Sheffield Wednesday man suffers foot injury, could miss Wigan clash on Tuesday

|

Sam Hutchinson picked up a foot injury in Sheffield Wednesday’s FA Cup win over Queens Park Rangers and could miss Tuesday’s meeting with Wigan Athletic as a result. The 30-year-old was substituted in the 54th minute on Friday after being stamped on in the first half. Monk said he brought him off as Hutchinson made it clear that he couldn’t continue.

He told Alex Miller of the Sheffield Star: “He said he got a stamp on the foot in the first half and felt he couldn’t quite carry on.” With Massimo Luongo struggling with a groin injury and Kieran Lee being doubtful, Wednesday could find themselves short on options in the engine room ahead of their midweek clash. Barry Bannan and Joey Pelupessy could be the only midfielders fit and available for selection at this rate.

Wednesday are currently 10th in the Championship with 42 points from 28 games, having lost four of their last five. Wigan are 23rd in the table and have lost three of their previous four games. The Owls beat Wigan 1-0 in their previous meeting (October 5, 2019) and have a good chance of doing the double.
