Kieran Lee could miss Sheffield Wednesday’s meeting with Nottingham Forest due to a groin injury. Garry Monk revealed the 31-year-old is “in the treatment room” and may be the only Owls player absent on the weekend. Lee was sidelined for Wednesday’s 5-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday and may be doubtful ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with Bristol City.

Monk said to the Sheffield Star in Thursday’s pre-match press conference: “The only one we have in the treatment room is Kieran Lee.” The midfielder has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, racking up five assists. His last outing came in Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat to Derby County at the end of February, forcing Monk to recall Joey Pelupessy alongside Barry Bannan.

How will Sheffield Wednesday fare against Nottingham Forest?

Win

Draw

Lose

The Owls are short on options in midfield ahead of Saturday’s meeting. Sam Hutchinson has been frozen out of the first-team, Massimo Luongo is only just returning from a calf injury, Alex Hunt is yet to be thrown into the deep end and Pelupessy has been unreliable due to inconsistency. Josh Windass would be a makeshift option in the role, but it remains to be seen who Monk will pick.

Wednesday’s midfield crisis threatens to derail their season. They’ve already fallen to 15th in the Championship and only have one win from their last 10 games. The Owls have conceded 14 goals in their last five games and are closer to the relegation zone (nine points) than they are to Forest in the table.

But due to issues with availability, Monk may be forced to play whoever is fit to face Forest rather than the best option. Lee would have likely started alongside Barry Bannan on Saturday, but it may have to be an out-of-form Pelupessy.
