Here we go, not even a week on from our heartbreaking culmination of the season thanks to a penalty shoot-out with Huddersfield Town, we’re back in the transfer speculation as the Owls look to take flight in the 2017/18, and finally return to the Premier League at the 3rd time of asking under Chansiri and Carvalhal.

According to Kent Live, Wednesday are one of three Championship clubs circling around the 29-year-old. Sheffield United, back at 2nd tier football with their ‘game-changing investment’, are seeking to add Holmes to their collection of lower-league assets, but the wideman is also being watched Cardiff City.

This time last year, Holmes was busy trying to force a move away from Northampton Town. This coincided with the departure of Wilder to Sheffield United. Holmes was part of Wilder’s League 2 title-winning side. However, it was Charlton Athletic who landed Holmes on a 2-year deal.

Holmes looks like he now may be on the move again. The Sheffield Star confirmed a couple of days ago that Holmes, who has 13 goals in 38 outings for Charlton last season, was subject of an undisclosed Sheffield United bid. With Holmes having 12 months left on his current deal, an improved move away to a higher division may be viable.

From a personal perspective, and with all due respect, I would be particularly underwhelmed if Wednesday were to go in for Holmes, and thus would call this ‘agent talk’. I expect Wednesday to perhaps spend bigger, and look for first-team quality targets in the wide positions.

What would you make of the signing of winger, Ricky Holmes? Let us know!
