Wednesday secured their place in this season’s Championship play-offs as a second-half double from Gary Hooper and a Lee Peltier own goal gave them a 3-0 victory over their nearest challengers, Cardiff City at a packed out (home end at least) Hillsborough Stadium.

In truth, Cardiff City barely made the match a competition as Wednesday rolled over the seventh placed side. Now, fans attention naturally turns to the playoffs but there is another regular season fixture to consider, a away trip to the Black Country to face Kenny Jackett`s Wolverhampton Wanderers.

I’ll be the first to admit given Wolves close call with the playoffs last season under Jackett, I thought that the meeting between the two historic teams would carry a lot more importance than it now does. But, there is still importance in the fixture and let’s looks at why, Wednesday need to continue the form that brought about a playoff place finish. A humbling by Wolves will not be best received by supports looking to pack Hillsborough out and back the side against Burnley, Brighton or Boro in the playoff semi-final.

It will also knock the confidence of our players, ask yourself how the Middlesbrough players will be feeling after they failed to win at St Andrews, gifting both Brighton and Burnley the chance to open up a points gap on them heading into the final weekend.Heaping pressure on themselves as they face a Brighton side that could walk into the Riverside next week knowing they need only a point to secure promotion if they win their home game today (May 2nd).

The Owls trip to Wolves now allows Carlos to rest key players for a week, Forestieri, Loovens, Lees, Lee, Bannan, Hooper and Westwood can all join the fans in enjoying an end of season party in the fitting surrounds of Molineux Stadium, it could be worse and have been Elland Road! The game gives the chance for players like Helan, Wildsmith, Sasso, Lopez, Palmer, McGugan and the returning Sam Hutchinson to make a big claim to be involved in the playoffs. Players at S6 are playing for places in the team, Lopez has seized his chance during the absence of Sam Hutchinson and hasn’t looked back he won’t be wanting to miss out on the match at Molineux. If he does it will provide a chance to Hutchinson to get his place back, he won’t want to waste the opportunity provided with a potential chance to play at Wembley on the horizon for the Owls.

Plenty for Carvalhal and Bullen to ponder over the coming week, the press conference should provide an insight to fans on what the coaching staff are thinking. But, form and a winning mentality plus the opportunity for squad and first team players to cement a chance to be part of the side that propels Wednesday back into the big time.

Those are reasons enough for the Wolves match not to be overlooked!
