‘Poor’, ‘Terrible’ – some fans criticise Sheffield Wednesday defender after Cardiff defeat

Sheffield Wednesday suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City on Sunday and Dominic Iorfa was one of many players criticised for his performance. The 24-year-old gave away a needless foul on Junior Hoilett and was out of position as Cardiff took the resulting free-kick quickly and scored in the fifth minute.

For City’s second goal, Iorfa completely lost his marker as Lee Tomlin fired a low cross into the box for Hoilett to score. Wednesday found themselves 2-0 down just seven minutes into the game and supporters made their feelings clear on social media.

Against Cardiff, Iorfa played for 57 minutes, made 38 touches, won three aerial duels, completed 79.3% of his 29 passes, made one tackle, gave away two fouls, made one interception, had one shot, made one clearance and drew one foul.

The 24-year-old has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Wednesday, scoring and creating three goals. Iorfa had impressed under Garry Monk, but he hasn’t been at his best in the Owls’ last two league games.

Monk hauled him off before the hour mark for Jordan Rhodes on Sunday which speaks volumes about his performance.
