At the beginning of the week Sheffield Wednesday were linked with a move for Peterborough United centre-half Jack Baldwin.
Surprisingly for the summer transfer window rumour mill, this one didn’t originate from one of the usual suspects in the media, it actually came directly from an interview with the London Road outfits Chairman, Darragh MacAnthony where he stated that the club had received a telephone call from ‘Wednesday’ and we had indicated that the player was ‘high on their manager’s list’ – we previously covered that piece of news.
The Sunderland Echo have updated the piece to say that Sunderland were now ‘closing in’ on a deal for the 25-year-old player and subsequently we were going to miss out – they state a fee and personal terms had already been agreed and the players was to complete a medical yesterday.
This didn’t go over too well amongst Owls fans on social media, but plenty were sceptical about our interest believing that at a fee reported to be £200,000 if we were that interested the deal would’ve been done.
#swfc won't be in for him mate.

I honestly can't see that we would be in for him.

Thought we were on a transfer embargo? So realistically we were never in for him was we? If the transfer embargo is true anyway

200k for Baldwin according to sky. Shows how much of a dire situation we might be in if we can't afford that #swfc

We’ll be fine, people forget we still have a squad that’s challenged twice for promotion
