This week saw Sheffield Wednesday confirm the return of former fan favourite Nicky Weaver as he was appointed to Jos Luhukay’s coaching staff as our preparations for the coming Championship campaign of 2018/19 continue.

The 39-year-old former stopper had his first experience of Hillsborough as a kid as he was with us initially as a schoolboy but having departed, he returned back in the 2004/05 season as he spent three months with us on loan after a deal was struck with Manchester City. That spell saw him make 14 appearances for us and later in his career he joined us as a free agent following his release by Burnley. Coming in back in 2010, that spell lasted until the summer of 2014 and he made a further 57 appearances across those years.

Having hung up his gloves he moved into coaching and returned originally in September 2014 taking up the position of Academy Goalkeeping Coach and following the departure of Andy Rhodes to Oldham Athletic earlier this summer, he now officially steps up to the senior squad having worked with them so far this summer.

The step up is a natural career progression for him now in coaching and hopefully, it turns out to be a great success for all parties.

Now for the appointments that everyone wants!
