Opinion: Why Sheffield Wednesday won’t sign Sunderland man in January

|

Sheffield Wednesday have Kadeem Harris, Jacob Murphy and Adam Reach to choose from on the wing, but the Owls could be looking to add to their squad while the January transfer window is open.

According to Richard Mennear of the Sunderland Echo, Wednesday are interested in McGeady, but the Sunderland wide-man may not be a good investment. He’s contributed eight goals in 21 League One games this season but isn’t getting any younger and may not be able to compete in the Championship anymore.

McGeady has spent three years at the Stadium of Light, making 98 appearances in all competitions while scoring and creating 40 goals. It’s been two-and-a-half years since the Republic of Ireland international last played in the Championship, so it remains to be seen if he can make difference.

Should Sheffield Wednesday sign Aiden McGeady?

Yes

No

Wednesday could benefit from another winger as Jacob Murphy has scored just two goals and failed to make an assist, but they should target a player that isn’t in the eve of their career. McGeady has been told by Sunderland that he’s surplus to requirements, but the Owls shouldn’t make a move as there are better options in the transfer market.
