On-loan Wednesday striker Neil Mellor has admitted a move to champions elect Brighton & Hove Albion would be an ‘interesting option’ to him.

Mellor, on-loan at Hillsborough from Preston North End, has been linked with a move to the Seagulls at the end of the current campaign.

The option is one of a number open to the former Liverpool Academy graduate, with a full-time move to Wednesday and a return to fight for his place at Preston also possibilities.

Mellor’s ‘come and get me’ plea to Brighton comes just days before Wednesday travel down to face the npower League One leaders.

He told The Argus: ‘I have still got one more year left on my contract at Preston. I said at the end of this season I would re-evaluate. Obviously I was hoping to be there or thereabouts for promotion but it hasn’t worked out like that.’

He continued: ‘Brighton are a big club. They`ve got the move to a new stadium and Championship football for them next season is pretty much guaranteed. That would definitely be an interesting option.’

A move to Brighton, as with Wednesday, would see Mellor follow in the footsteps of his dad Ian, who also played for Albion.
