Wednesday striker Gary Madine has returned to former club Carlisle United on an emergency loan deal until the end of the season.

Owls boss Stuart Gray has been keen to get the Gateshead-born player out on loan for more first team action after recently serving time in prison.

And Gray says Cumbria is the ideal location for the player after enjoying a previous spell with United.

“Gary needs some first team football and with the options I have at the moment, he would find it hard to get into the team,’ Gray told the official SWFC website.

“He is familiar with Carlisle, he has played over 50 games for them in the past, so this is a good opportunity for him.”

Madine could feature when Carlisle visit Tranmere Rovers this weekend.
