Wednesday boss Dave Jones praised his side’s ‘endeavour and commitment’ after defeating Charlton Athletic 2-0 at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Goals from Rhys McCabe and Jeremy Helan, both netting their first goals for the club, were enough to give the Owls a vital three points that lifted them out of the Championship relegation spots on goal difference.

And, after back-to-back wins, Jones was understandably in better spirits going into the hectic festive fixture schedule, praising his side’s efforts.

‘There’s a long way to go and we’re fighting for our lives,’ he said post-match.

‘What we maybe lack sometimes in terms of a little bit of quality, we make up for in endeavour and commitment and that’s all you can ask for.’

He added: ‘We had a shaky start and they could have scored a goal in the first two or three minutes but after that we sorted ourselves out and I thought we were worthy winners in the end.’
