Wednesday manager Dave Jones was left frustrated at the ‘basic errors’ that cost his side in their 3-0 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion on Friday night.

The Owls slipped to their second defeat on the spin, with goals from Wayne Bridge, Craig Mackail-Smith and Will Buckley bagging Gus Poyet’s men the points at the Amex Stadium.

And while Jones believes his men aren’t too far away from being a competitive team in the Championship, he says they have to get the basic things right.

“We are trying to do things and change things at the club but at the moment we are making too many mistakes and they are costing us,’ he told the official SWFC website after last night’s match.

“They are basic errors and players have got to dig in and do better than what they are at the moment.

“There`s not a great deal in it. It`s a fine line, but we are making wrong decisions in vital areas.’

Seagulls boss Gus Poyet told the gathered press post-match: ‘It was a perfect night but we have more to come. We have added quality players and they are already making an impact.

‘In terms of chances, goals and the noise from a record home crowd it was a great night of football and with us being top of the table I have no problem with the expectations that brings, as I prefer to see myself at the top.’
