There were fears that Tom Lees could miss Sheffield Wednesday’s meeting with Bristol City after injuring his hamstring in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest, but Garry Monk says the 29-year-old should be fit to face the Robins.

Lees was substituted for Julian Borner after 78 minutes against Forest, but Monk played down the seriousness of the injury. He told the Sheffield Star: “He just had a bit of cramp. At that point, we were in a strong position in the game and there was no point in taking any risks so we took him off.”

It’s good news for Wednesday, as Lees has already missed a lot of football this season due to a tweaked hamstring. The club captain was absent for 10 consecutive Championship outings between late-August & early-November before returning in the Owls’ 2-2 draw with Swansea City (November 9).

Wednesday picked up just four wins from 10 (40%) in his absence, amassing 15 points from a possible 30, but they boast 12 points from the six games he’s played in since.

Lees has been a regular upon his return, playing 348 minutes from a possible 360 in Wednesday’s last four league games, and should start alongside Dominic Iorfa at centre-back on Sunday. The 29-year-old will surely hope to keep another clean sheet after shutting out Forest.
