Striker Marlon Harewood, who had a pre-season trial with Wednesday, is set to pen a one-year deal with Barnsley today.

The former Nottingham Forest and West Ham forward had been training with the Owls over the summer but looks set to agree a deal at Championship rivals Barnsley for the 2012-13 season.

The 32-year-old is a free agent after leaving Forest at the end of last season and Dave Jones, the Owls boss, has been looking at bolstering his attacking options with his services.

Harewood featured in a number of pre-season friendly matches and scored a hat-trick in Wednesday’s win at Kilmarnock.

But after Wednesday dropped their interest Barnsley took full advantage and, with Mido sidelined for a number of weeks, Reds boss Keith Hill has looked to Harewood as the man to plug the gap.
