“Had good game”, “Our best CB” – Some fans react to 28 y/o’s performance in Sheff Wed’s 1-1 draw
Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon and Liam Palmer was one of many players who came away with praise on Twitter and Owlstalk for his performance.
The 28-year-old started alongside Dominic Iorfa and Julian Borner at centre-back and helped limit Lewis Grabban to only one shot on target over the 90 minutes. Palmer stifled nearly every Reds attack that came his way, limiting the Championship high-flyers to only three shots on target.
Both #SWFC’s full-backs, Liam Palmer and Fox, are better defensively than offensively, plus Dominic Iorfa’s pace makes him a good fit for a wide CB role. A second striker would certainly help the need for more goals too whilst retaining three in midfield.

That was a much better performance and the result was the least we deserved. Palmer, Bannan, Lee, Luongo, Rhodes (in the first half) and Börner all had good games. All substitutes, bar Reach, made an impact when they came on too #SWFC

Striker: “Thought Palmer did well and think a 3 of Palmer, Iorfa and Fox would have the mobility to cover gaps.”
Judas Atkinson: “I actually think 3-5-2 suits Palmer very well. He is a good defensive full-back.”
Against Forest, Palmer played for 90 minutes, had 69 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 73.3% of his 45 passes, attempted 15 long balls with 33% accuracy, made two tackles, had six interceptions, made two clearances and won three free-kicks.
The 28-year-old has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, making one assist. Palmer has been a regular under Garry Monk, operating at left-back, right-back and centre-back, so he’s an important player for Wednesday.
Since rising through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2010, Palmer has gone on to make a total of 254 appearances across the board, scoring one goal and making nine assists. He has one year remaining on his deal and is staking a claim to be retained beyond 2021.
