Team News: Sheff Wed duo ruled out of Nottm Forest clash, one player back from injury

|

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Josh Windass and Sam Winnall will miss Saturday afternoon’s clash with Nottingham Forest but Steven Fletcher is available for selection after returning from injury this week.

Windass has been struggling with a thigh problem, Winnall is believed to have a minor injury that Garry Monk described as a niggle, but Fletcher’s return from knock in training is good news.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

In Windass’ absence, Monk has Barry Bannan, Kieran Lee, Massimo Luongo, Alex Hunt and Joey Pelupessy. In Winnall’s absence, the Wednesday boss can turn to Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri, Atdhe Nuhiu and Jordan Rhodes.

Ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Forest, Wednesday are 15th in the Championship with 48 points from 37 games this season. The Owls are coming off the back of one win from 10 and have picked up just one win from their last seven home games.

Wednesday’s players were individually training in March and April while working together in May, but they’re likely to be short of match fitness upon their return to competitive football.

Monk’s side are eight points adrift of the playoffs and lock horns with two sides in the top-seven of the table before July, so Wednesday can’t afford to get off to a slow start.
