Peter Gilbert has put pen to paper on a three and a half year contract with the club after impressing on a loan-deal from Leicester City.

The 22-year-old, who also previously played for Paul Sturrock at Plymouth Argyle, signed for an undisclosed fee and will be available for the Owls FA Cup tie with Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Gilbert told the official Wednesday website: ”I’m over the moon. From the first day I came here I wanted to stay.”

”It takes a little bit of time to settle in, especially with the situation we’ve been in but I’ve dug in with the lads and we’ve ground out some results over the Christmas period.”

”The bottom of the table changes every weekend and it’s all down to ourselves now to put results together.”

Gilbert started his career with Birmingham City as a trainee before moving to Plymouth in 2003 and making 78 appearances for the Pilgrims, scoring one goal.

He moved to the Walkers stadium in the summer of 2005 but only managed four appearances for the club after his £200,000 move.

It seems like fate then, that his first league match as an Owls player will be against the Foxes a week on Saturday, and I’m sure ‘Gilberto’ will be looking to get one over his former collegues!
