Owls midfielder Steve Adams has been dealt a cruel blow at the start of the new year by recieving the news that he could out of action for up to six weeks.

Adams has a tendonitis problem which is affecting his Achilles area and requires an injection along with a rest from action.

The 25-year-old former Plymouth Argyle man played through the pain barrier in the Owls 2-1 victory against Burnley last week but has not featured since.

Manager Paul Sturrock told the official Owls site: ”We’re hoping it won’t be six weeks but it’s a severe blow. We could have probably kept on taking him off in games but for the player’s sake we’ve got to go down this road.”

”He doesn’t want to let anybody down. He wants to be match fit. I think everyone has seen how much of an influence he’s been and I’ve been delighted with the part he’s played.”

Adams has mae just five appearances for the club this season with four of them coming towards the end of December.
