As per John Percy of the Telegraph, Dejphon Chansiri has been charged with misconduct by the EFL and could be banned from football if found guilty. The Telegraph say Sheffield Wednesday will contest the charges, but they could be hit with a big points deduction if found guilty.

The Owls’ controversial owner, along with finance director John Redgate and former chief executive Katrien Meire, have all been charged in relation to the £60m sale of Hillsborough following a lengthy investigation.

Championship clubs are allowed to lose no more than of £39m over three years, but Chansiri green-lighted the stadium sale to record a pre-tax profit in 2017/18 and avoid breaking EFL sustainability rules. Land Registry documents revealed the sale was actually completed the following year, however.

Birmingham City were docked nine points for breaching the rules, leading to them dropping five places in the table. Wednesday are currently ninth in the Championship with 29 points from 19 games and could drop 10 places in the table if docked the same amount of points as City were.

Will Sheffield Wednesday be charged for misconduct?

Yes

No

If found guilty, a points deduction could kill the Owls’ chances of finishing in the playoffs this season and could be the end of Chansiri.
