Reports in Lancashire are claiming the Owls are set to make a second approach for highly-rated Burnley boss Steve Cotterill – after already having a bid turned down last week.

Wednesday are said to have made the former Stoke City boss their number one target after taking cash-strapped Burnley to fourth in the Championship after an impressinve start – in the hope that he can do the same at Hillsborough.

And Cotterill told the Lancashire Evening Post he is flattered about the rumours – and has yet to play them down.

‘It is flattering and it is probably a measure of how perhaps we are doing at Burnley. But I’m not one of those to hold my head in the clouds. I’m a down to earth man and I’ve got my feet on the ground. I’m just honest and hard-working and that will never change, he said.

‘I only found out about the approach when the chairman told me. It was quite nice for the chairman to come down to the hotel to tell me. He told me he had turned down an approach from Sheffield Wednesday and I listened to what he had to say. That’s all I know about it at the moment.

‘I did not spit my dummy out or anything like that because he said to me he turned down an approach and neither will I. Really, I have not had a lot of time to think about it and digest it.

‘Even if it had been an approach from Real Madrid, I would have concentrated on the game because that’s the next thing in hand.’

Wednesday have been looking for a new boss to change their fortunes in the Championship this season after the shock sacking of boss Paul Sturrock last Thursday.

Cotterill’s record at Burnley after 118 games in charge is 41 won, 44 lost and 33 drawn. He took charge of Stoke City for just 13 games winning only three during that time after impressing with Cheltenham from 1997 to 2002.
