Coke returns from Swindon loan spell

Midfielder Giles Coke has returned to Hillsborough from his loan spell at Swindon Town for an assessment on a recurrence of a foot injury.

The 26-year-old had featured in five matches for the League One club after being allowed out on loan by the Owls in August.

The deal was due to run until January but Swindon, managed by former Owls striker Paolo Di Canio, will now assess the situation in light of the injury, which Di Canio says is a recurrence of a foot problem Coke initially sustained with Wednesday.

“He has a problem with his foot, one which we have now discovered he has had before pre-season with Sheffield Wednesday,’ Di Canio told the official Swindon Town website.

“We have scanned the problem area and believe he hadn`t had a scan there before, even though he isn`t our player.

‘He has travelled back to his parent club now and we will decide how to proceed and make the season together. They should look after him in a proper way. We did already work with him to help him – I hope they are going to do the same at Sheffield Wednesday because even if he may not be a part of their plan he is a Sheffield Wednesday player.”

Coke will have a scan in the coming days and all parties will then decide on his future, with Coke’s loan stint with Swindon due to run until January.
