Wednesday striker Leon Clarke insists he’s putting thoughts on a new contract at Hillsborough firmly to the back of his mind.

The former Wolves man is one of a number of the current Wednesday squad who is out of contract at S6 at the end of the season.

His two-goal performance which helped the Owls to a vital 2-0 victory against promotion-chasing Leicester City at the weekend has certainly done his chances of a new deal no harm.

But the striker is just focussed on playing his part in guiding the Owls to Championship safety first – starting at West Brom tomorrow night.

‘I haven’t thought about it (my contract) to be honest. The only thing I’m thinking about right now is helping to keep Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship,’ he told Teamtalk.

‘We have another big game coming up on Tuesday at West Brom and, obviously, they’re a very good side.

‘They will come at us and play some good football but the manager will have us very well prepared.’

Clarke is set to keep his starting role for the trip to the Midlands.
