Wednesday defender Lewis Buxton has been linked with a move away from Hillsborough this summer after the player was seen to have made a ‘tearful’ goodbye to Owls fans.

Buxton, whose contract is up with Wednesday in the summer, was seen to make a tearful goodbye to Wednesdayites following the final game of the season against Exeter at the weekend.

The defender seemed to thank Owls fans more than his teammates following the 2-1 loss and seemed to be keen to get on the scoresheet, testing the Exeter stopper a number of teams – hinting that it could have been his last game for the club.

The right-back is thought to have caught the attention of npower Championship clubs thanks to his good performances this season and the fact that he will be a free agent.

Owls boss Gary Megson will now have to decide which players to offer a new deal and which to let go with the former Stoke City man’s future at stake.

Buxton’s performances in the blue and white stripes this season have been one of the few bright spots of a season-to-forget for the Owls, with most Wednesday fans keen to see him remain at S6 next term.
