Wednesday have been linked with a swoop for Colchester United’s out-of-contract striker Ian Henderson this summer.

The 26-year-old has stalled on talks over a new deal with the npower League One side, alerting a number of clubs, including the Owls, according to skysports.com.

Southampton, promoted to the Championship, and Sheffield United, who will be playing with Wednesday in League One next term, have also been linked with his services.

The U’s are keen to tie up a new deal for the forward but interest from other clubs could well see the former Norwich City man hold out for a move away from the West Homes Community Stadium.

Owls boss Gary Megson has already announced he is keen to bring six players to bolster his squad this summer for a promotion push next term.

A striker is understood to be on his wishlist, with experienced Leicester City forward Steve Howard linked with a move to S6, and Neil Mellor also a target after finishing a season-loan loan spell with the Owls with 20 goals.
