Reports of Bolton Wanderers leading the chase to sign Owls wing back and academy breakthrough Liam Palmer have been a topic across social media and Owls forums.

Connected sports journalist Alan Nixon has linked the newly married 25-year-old right-back to last season’s League One runners up as they look to improve on their dismal last showing in the Championship. Palmer, loaded with EFL experience usually occupies the right back position when preferred to Jack Hunt. However, many Owls fans will recall Palmer breaking through into the first team under Gary Megson as a defensive midfielder in the days before Jose Semedo made the position his own. Palmer reverted to full back after a loan spell at Tranmere Rovers.

Currently he an Owls squad player as he is normal behind Jack Hunt in the pecking order but could end up further away from the first team soon as Carlos looks to add further wingback options with Aston Villa`s Alan Hutton being a name that doesn’t seem to have gone away.

If the Owls invest in Hutton or equivalent it looks likely to mean Palmer`s chances of getting into the first team would be diminished. At 25-years-old, Palmer will be seeking to gain game time opposed to squad status and a move whether loan or permanent could be best for all parties involved. Bolton are thought to be keen on Palmer`s versatile nature and comparative low cost for a player coming into the prime of his career and over 100 appearances to his name.
