With Sheffield Wednesday opening their pre-season game schedule on Friday against Lincoln City at Sincil Bank, Owls fans rightly had a proper distraction and something to get excited about this summer with incoming transfer window news and rumour incredibly quiet when compared to previous seasons.

Most accepted this would be the case as we looked to move on those high earners who just hadn’t got going at the club, and Wednesday had made no secret about trimming down numbers and balancing the books, but it has been a quiet and largely boring time.

A 1-0 victory did at least lift spirits for some in the fanbase though and with the games getting going now things should at least begin to warm up on a transfer front and fans can then lean on that, as well as the matches themselves, for some optimism and excitement as the big kick-off nears.

On Saturday, following the game, goalkeeper Keiren Westwood took to social media to welcome back 90 minutes of action and fans were clearly happy with his decision in their responses.
