Wednesday defender Richard Wood says he is ‘desperate’ to help the Owls keep their first clean sheet of the year as they make the trip to London to face QPR on Saturday.
The Owls’ defensive frailties have been at the heart of the slump in performances since the new year – conceding in every game they’ve played in during 2007 – and the Wakefield-born defender hopes his return can co-incide with a water-tight Owls defence.
‘I’m desperate for a clean sheet,’ Wood told the Sheffield Star.
‘I thought we’d got one last Saturday. We went close again, against Plymouth. But it will come.’
The young defender will travel down to London at the weekend with the rest of the Owls squad for another clash against one of the sides battling against the drop at the bottom of the division – and he hopes to continue his full recovery from the injury which saw him sidelined for over a year.
He continued: ‘I was cramping up after 49 minutes of the Leeds game, and after 70 minutes of the Plymouth game, so I’m getting better. I think I’ve simply got through it. I wouldn’t say I’ve been excellent. I’ve done the job.’
And there’s no rest for Woody as theteam travel back up to Sheffield for another midweek clash with Colchester, before the Owls host promotion-chasing Wolves on the Saturday, again on home soil.
