Rumours linking Owls’ captain Richard Wood with a move away from Hillsborough have re-surfaced with the transfer deadline just a matter of days away.

The Wakefield-born defender, who was given the team captain armband for the 2008-09 campaign, was linked with a move to Championship rivals Coventry City over the summer.

And reports in the Midlands are now saying that Sky Blues’ boss Chris Coleman is preparing a deal to take the 23-year-old to the Ricoh Arena in the next week.

But the Owls are likely to reject any approach for their skipper, with Brian Laws already wafer thin with options at the back, and Geoff Sheard looking to complete a deal with his consortium to takeover at S6.

Birmingham City and Crystal Palace are also said to be interested in Wood’s services.
