The Owls have been linked with a move for former Dundee United and Aberdeen striker Robbie Winters when the January transfer window opens.

The ex-Scotland international is set to return to British football as a free agent after a spell in Norweigen football with Brann Bergen – with a number of other English clubs showing an interest in the hitman.

Owls boss Brian Laws has identified a striker as a possibility when the transfer-window re-opens and with Winters available on a free transfer he could be a possible target to add to the attacking options at Hillsborough.

The 32-year-old made over a 100 appearances for Dundee United before moving to fellow SPL side Aberdeen in 1998 for £700,000 where he went on to make 122 league appearances scoring 41 goals for the Dons.

Wednesday duo Marcus Tudgay and Deon Burton have fired the Owls to within three points of the Championship play-offs but the addition of Winters would provide extra competition for places alongside Steve Maclean and Drew Talbot.
