Well, that was fun wasn’t it!

Two injury time goals leave Rotherham and boss Steve Evans still looking worryingly over their shoulders at the Championship relegation zone.

The match was delayed by 15 minutes, that served to only heightened the sense of occasion for the home side. Once the first half started each team peppered a few shots on goal, but other than a disallowed strike by Rotherham following a foul on Wednesday keeper Westwood the half passed without much incident.

The half time motivational team talk from Steve Evans worked well as his side made a strong start to the second period, and a lengthy spell of pressure was rewarded with Pringle’s 57th-minute strike, which deflected off Tom Lees to wrong-foot the helpless Westwood. With their tails up the Millers nearly added a second in the 64th minute as Hunt’s effort just went wide. Westwood again berated his defenders into action. Wednesday had in fairness offered little in attack, forcing Stuart Gray to bring on forward player Chris Maguire, Stevie May and Caolan Lavery. With 10 minutes remain the Owls stirred into life but it took until the 84th minute for an equaliser to arrive. Substitute Lavery headed in a McGugan cross.

However as Wednesdayites celebrated in the away end, straight from kick-off the Millers thought they had won it. As Jordan Bowery picked the ball up on the left and shot home at the near post, sending the home fans into wild celebrations, even Steve Evans found his legs, charging onto the pitch as he got caught up with the emotion of a potential win over Yorkshires most successful club.

But, as the match entered stoppage time and with the Millers winning 2-1. Wednesday flexed their muscles and with 93 minutes on the clock, Atdhe Nuhiu stuck with a header from a great swinging free-kick to level the games at 2-2. Wednesday fans everywhere hoped that the defence could keep their concentration.

But more drama was to follow as the Wednesday players sensed a winner against a team lacking in confidence. That winner came as through neat play in the Miller’s half, setting midfielder Kieren Lee free and he calmly slotted a low strike into the net giving Wednesday the lead with just seconds to go. The players and the Wednesday bench raced to join the travelling fans in their celebrations that continued seconds later as the final whistle blew, giving Wednesday a 3-2 win. Just a little heartbreaking for Evans, his players and the Rotherham fans who’d been trying to rile up Wednesday fans for weeks.
