With Sheffield Wednesday fans knowing that the club were hoping to get one more deal over the line on deadline day, a short time ago the club confirmed the speculation linking us with a move for Hamburg centre-half David Bates, and the 22-year-old prospect joins us on a season long loan for the 2019/20 Championship campaign.

Having come through Raith Rovers ranks, his first taste of senior football came with East Sterling and he enjoyed a further loan spell with Brechin, before arriving at Ibrox for a spell with Rangers. He left the Scottish giants with 28 appearances to his name, and he made a free agent switch out to the Bundesliga 2, joining Hamburg and it seems he’s impressed whilst with them, even gaining himself four Scotland senior caps.

He comes to us as per the Official Site but there are mixed reports at the minute as to whether or not it’s a loan with a view to a permanent deal next summer.
With the announcement coming so late in the day, I imagine that will be cleared up pretty quickly – it does disappointingly end hopes of seeing Michael Hector return.
