Wednesday have finally got their man today after Chris O’Grady completed a move to Hillsborough from Rochdale for an undisclosed fee.

The former Leicester City man has been a target of Owls boss Gary Megson throughout the summer and Wednesday had already tried and failed to secure his services before agreeing today’s three-year contract with the attacker.

O’Grady played against Wednesday in Saturday’s npower League One opener against Rochdale, which the Owls won 2-0. He came on as a second half substitute.

Owls boss Gary Megson told the official SWFC website: ‘Chris’ name was one of those on the list that I handed to Milan at the end of last season so I am really pleased that we have signed him now.

‘Rochdale did not want to lose him and there was competition for his signature from a Championship club and one of our League 1 rivals, both of whom are in the Yorkshire area.

‘Chris has a big physique and strong stature and defenders do not relish playing against him. He has honesty and a desire to play at the highest level and hopefully he will achieve his ambitions at this club.’

He takes the number nine shirt at Hillsborough and has made 206 league starts, scoring 57 goals along the way.
