Sheffield Wednesday and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has certainly had a mixed 2018/19 campaign at Hillsborough.
With his contract coming to an end he was summarily dismissed from first team duties by former manager Jos Luhukay and the two even had a little public spat over his fitness after one claim from our former gaffer. With Steve Bruce coming through the door in the second half of the campaign though, the 34-year-old was instantly returned on a far more regular basis to the starting lineup and he more than played his part in our turn of form and massive unbeaten run as the Play-Offs began to look like an unexpected achievement.
Although we didn’t quite make the season extension, confidence has returned to Hillsborough and everyone is now watching what Bruce does with a big summer ahead and some players already confirming their departures as we look to balance the books and ease the strain on our medical staff.
Westwood himself took to social media this week to reflect on his season, and it didn’t take fans long to see the subtle broadside to Luhukay.
Another Season done ✅ even tho it only got started in December 🙄Big thanks to my wife Hannah, my 3 beautiful children, my family, friends, teammates, manager, coaches and the fans for your love and support this season thru the bad times and the good. 🙂⚽️💚☘️🦉🔵⚪️ pic.twitter.com/85rUpBcdY3

An absolute disgrace and one that won’t be forgotten. You kept your head down and showed what we all knew when you could get back in. Hope to see you in our colours next season and beyond. UTO. #theresonlyone #swfc
