In midweek striker Lucas Joao signed a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday and he more than delivered for manager Jos Luhukay as he came back into the starting lineup at Hillsborough as we hosted Ipswich Town.
The 24-year-old attacker scored a brace on the day to give us a 2-1 victory and make it two wins inside of a week as we got ourselves up and running in the Championship in 2018/19.
Having been given a match rating of 8.83 by Whoscored as they ran the numbers from the game, his rating could easily have been higher with two goals from four efforts as he also struck the woodwork.
It was a day where the little he did, he did well as he only had 39 touches across the game but along with his efforts at goal, he had a key pass, a pass accuracy of 83.3 and chipped in with two clearances and three fouls to break their play up.
He was the top-rated player amongst both sides but Barry Bannan also stood out with 8.40. Completing the top five ratings were Atdhe Nuhui (7.76), Matt Penney (7.47) and Liam Palmer (6.90). As a comparison about the performance, Ipswich’s Jonas Knudsen was best rated at 7.47 but he was the only one to rate above 7.
