Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson does split the fanbase, especially as at Hillsborough we continue to have the overriding arch of just where has Keiran Westwood gone – and more importantly why.
With questions continuing about the whereabouts of the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international, Dawson and Joe Wildsmith will always have a question mark above their heads when performances are now deemed not to be up to scratch, and with Jos Luhukay leaning on Dawson in particular, our recent form and results have seen him come in for plenty of criticism.
Last Friday evening’s Steel City against United turned that conversation on its head though for many, as the 23-year-old lifelong fan put in a very good performance to keep the clean sheet and bring an end to our four-game losing run.
Nothing here but a battling performance by #swfc and first clean sheet Well done #Dawson

Pleased for Dawson, however. Has come in for so much unnecessary stick but that was a wonderful save. #swfc

The clean sheet was our first of the 2018/19 campaign and topping off his performance with a save from the penalty spot as well was simply the icing on the cake.
With the November international break now in full flow, we’ll have to hope we can take the positives from that and get back on an upward curve when the games return.
