Sheffield Wednesday went into Saturday’s clash with Preston North End at Hillsborough managerless following the sacking of Jos Luhukay on Friday evening.

Caretaker gaffer Lee Bullen was placed in charge and from his words, it came as unexpected news and he was pretty much left in the lurch, but having made some tweaks and brought goalkeeper Keiren Westwood back, he was left vindicated as on loan Chelsea man Michael Hector hit what became the winner just after the hour mark.

Statistics website Whoscored’s ratings showed the strength of the improved performance, but the goalscorer took their star man rating for his individual efforts.

Taking top spot with 8.24 immediately post-game, Tom Lees came in second place with 7.89. Completing the top five performers on the day were Steven Fletcher (7.36), Lucas Joao (7.36) and Adam Reach (7.35).

Morgan Fox and Josh Onomah also pulled in plus-seven ratings for their showings, but it was a much-needed three points on the day given how poor our form has been of late.
