I’m not sure anyone expected Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Hooper to feature in any capacity in tonight’s hosting of Leeds United at Hillsborough.
Gary Hooper will go for a second opinion on his injury.
JL: “He has not trained with the team this week. He must go for a second opinion with the doctor. He is still having pain. It maybe takes time to come back to the team training.” #SWFC

Having returned to training previously and begun building up his fitness, including a run out at Under 23 level, Luhukay had previously confirmed that there was another niggle for the 30-year-old to contend with and that we were again being cautious with him, but speaking in advance of the Championship game this evening he explained that Hooper was now set for a second opinion and that has obviously given rise to connotations within the fanbase.
Admitting that he hadn’t trained this week owing to the pain he was suffering, fans have obviously worried about it being the worst news but hopefully, that won’t prove to be the case.

Gutted, he’s one hell of a player for us. I just hope he can get back to full fitness soon. #swfc

It does give rise to the question will we ever see him fit again given the length of time he’s been out as given the wage he’s on, even if he gets semi-fit for January there would be a strong line of thinking that we should look to save money and loan him out so he can get fully fit elsewhere and that’s certainly not unheard of in the game.
