CARLISLE UNITED have announced on their official website that their star striker Gary Madine is set to join the Owls on a four and a half year contract.

Homegrown Madine has scored 13 goals for the Cumbrians this season and at 6’5 will offer the Owls a huge aerial threat.

Wednesday have yet to confirm that the deal has been completed.

Carlise director John Nixon told their website:

‘We have been in discussions with Sheffield Wednesday since Thursday about Gary, and the player was keen to make the move after he had spoken to them and to those that advise him.

‘He feels that it is a big club, with crowds often in the region of 15-20 thousand and moving to a club like that is a challenge he wants to take.’

Madine will not be involved in Carlisle’s game against Bristol Rovers today and is expected to finalise the deal by Monday morning.

Motherwell’s highly-rated Mark Reynolds is also set to join the Owls shortly.
