There was plenty of excitement yesterday as Sheffield Wednesday discovered the fixture list for the coming 2018/19 Championship campaign and it certainly seemed to restore some hope and optimism in the fanbase after a slow summer so far.
With the only real news of note since the 2017/18 campaign came to a close being the requirement for Jos Luhukay to reduce costs associated with the first-team group and concerns surrounding the likes of Barry Bannan being cashed in on to achieve that aim, it has been a muted few weeks in the life of the club.
With the fixtures generating some talk in the Twittersphere, Sky Sports confirmed a mini cash boost for us already with them selecting the Sunderland League Cup clash for screening – Thursday, August 16 @ 7.45pm.

But the true explosion of some joy came when a key player for us tweeted about the released fixture lists, as for many his choice of words more than implied that speculation about a possible departure was wide of the mark.
So over to Barry Bannan.
Fixtures are out can’t wait now for the season to start enjoyed the break but ready to go again #swfc ⚽️⚽️⚽️

That cued a raft of complimentary responses, including a few requests for him to sign a contract extension to really put the rumour mill to rest.
And the dog doesn’t get kicked! ????
