Wednesday are closing in on a deal to sign Blackpool defender Miguel Llera on a permanent deal, according to reports.

The experienced Spanish centre-back impressed Owls boss Gary Megson during a one-month loan stay, which finished after Monday’s 2-1 home win over Tranmere Rovers.

And his arrival on a permanent deal at Hillsborough, which is expected to last until the end of the current campaign, is nearing completion according to reports.

Megson has made no secret of his desire to sign Llera, telling the Sheffield Star earlier this week: ‘In the last two games he’s [Llera] done really well for us.

‘I think Miguel wants to get himself under contract somewhere and he seems to think he’s going to be able to get a free transfer from Blackpool.

‘I’ve recommended to [vice-chairman] Paul Aldridge and [chairman] Milan Mandaric that we try to get it done.’

Llera could sign before Sunday’s FA Cup third round clash against West Ham at Hillsborough but he wouldn’t be able to feature due to being cup-tied for playing in an earlier round while on-loan at Brentford.
