Tuesday was a busy day for Sheffield Wednesday fans, as not only did we learn about the emergency capture of goalkeeper Paul Jones, we also saw Lucas Joao complete his expected switch out to Reading.

The summer rumour mill had speculated that Joao was unhappy and wanted to move on and there were some reports that he’d slapped in a transfer request but whatever ultimately happened, he moves on for an undisclosed fee (believed to be £5million rising to £7million) and it’s also reported that we have a 20% sell on clause should he hit the ground running and really impress with some consistency now.

The 25-year-old moves on having made 128 appearances for us, returning 29 goals – including his goal against Reading as we opened up the 2019/20 Championship campaign with victory over them last weekend.

Plenty of fans will be hoping that Joao’s fee greases the wheels for the arrival of Michael Hector and with reports that Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo is undergoing a medical today we might have further announcements before I even get to publish this piece.
