“We will see what happens” – Sheff Wed defender raises uncertainty over long-term future

|

Dominic Iorfa revealed in an interview with Yorkshire Live that he wants to play Premier League football in his career.

The 24-year-old has been a regular under Garry Monk and may attract interest from other clubs after impressing before the season was postponed due to Covid-19.

Sheffield Wednesday are desperate to keep their best players, but the lure of top-flight football may be too strong for many to resist. If the Owls can’t reach the Premier League themselves, could Iorfa join a side already there?

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

He told Yorkshire Live: “Everyone wants to play at the highest level and test themselves against the best. I have got the ambition to play in the Premier League. That is the level I want to get to but I know I have got certain things to improve.

“I have really enjoyed my club football this season and we will see what happens in the future.” Iorfa joined Wednesday from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2019 and has gone on to make 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and making three assists.

The 24-year-old has nailed down a starting place and has two years remaining on his deal at Hillsborough, but it’s hard to see Iorfa turning down a move to a bigger club if they’re promising Premier League football.

With the Owls sitting 15th in the Championship and having picked up just two wins in 2020, why wouldn’t players consider their options elsewhere?

Barry Bannan spoke out about wanting top-flight football before he retires and that doesn’t look a possibility in this current squad, so the future of many players may be up in the air this summer.

That being said, Iorfa doesn’t have any offers to weigh up just yet, so his immediate future looks to be at Wednesday.
