With some strong moves by Sheffield Wednesday in the summer transfer window and a bit of late deadline day action on Thursday, it was all eyes to our second Championship clash of the year as we hosted Barnsley earlier today.

With caretaker gaffer Lee Bullen picking up an opening day win last weekend, hopes were high that he’d keep the 100% record going and pick up another three points this afternoon.

With a quick second minute goal from new arrival Jacob Murphy, and a second half effort from Steven Fletcher, we did just that and took a maximum six points from an available six. We can certainly do better on a possession front, but we did more than Barnsley with far less of the ball when it came to chance creation, so I think everyone will be happy enough with that.

Speaking to the BBC following the game, Bullen said of our performance.

“As game plans go, they followed it to the ‘t’. I had a bit of a go at half-time as I felt we had more in the locker but we tried to keep pushing on and the lads were fantastic.”

On Murphy’s debut strike, he added.

“You can’t get a better debut can you, scoring with his first touch, he must have thought all his Christmas’ had come at once. He could have frozen in that situation but it just shows his quality. He and Kadeem Harris are two fantastic outlets to allow us to play like that. We’re all enjoying ourselves but this league is ruthless so our feet are firmly planted on the ground, but while we’re winning games we will enjoy it as well.”
