Watford have emerged as rivals to Wednesday for the services of Manchester City youngster Jeremy Helan.

Owls boss Dave Jones had been eager to bring Helan back to Hillsborough this week after his initial loan stint at Hillsborough came to an end following the weekend’s stalemate with Wolves.

But the Hornets could provide a sting with an offer to the Premier League champions to take the 20-year-old Frenchman on a permanent basis.

Jones told BBC Radio Sheffield: ‘We’ll wait for the Jeremy Helan decision, but Watford have come in and wanted to buy him.

‘We’re just disappointed that someone else has come in but at this time we can’t match what they [Watford] are offering.’

Helan proved a hit at Wednesday. He started his loan spell at left-back but finished it on the left wing, producing a string of top-drawer performances to help the Owls climb out of the relegation zone.
