As the dust has settled and a few days have passed since a disappointing evening at S6 , another season of Championship football beckons. Huddersfield Town were the better more attack minded side over the two legs and beat an Owls side on penalties. The Owls nerves at S6 shone through on the night after Steven Fletcher and his battering ram approach exited the match in favour of Jordan Rhodes. Wednesday didn’t quite tick along as had been doing.

However, as we reflect back on another season it can only be viewed as a positive one, an important one where Sheffield Wednesday with a high profile playoff run behind us now, it’s time to do a playoff fail to automatic promotion akin to both Middlesbrough in 15/16 and a Brighton in 16/17 and bounce back as we ‘go again`.

Sure, the season didn’t end on the high note we all wanted at Wembley, but after all those prior years of struggles, the fans including this site’s editor shouldn’t be to downhearted.

So, before the summer transfer window opens and players depart and arrive at S6 ahead of what’s looks set to be another tense, pressured and interesting season in the Championship with games against Barnsley, Leeds, Burton, Aston Villa and Newcastle to look forward too. Take a moment to reflect on what have been an amazing season under the guidance of Dejphon Chansiri, Carlos Carvalhal and Lee Bullen in 2016/17 and here’s to another next year were we all hope to see Wednesday battling at the top end of the Championship for the automatic promotion places.

With the news breaking today that Carlos Carvalhal and his coaching staff committed to the club until the summer of 2018 (at least!) Coupled with a young, talented and strong squad with plenty of competition, the club is moving in the right direction.

So, as we look back on this season with a mixture of pride and to the future with yet more optimism and hope (again, yet again!)

I’d like to show some appreciation and firstly, I’d also like to take the chance to say THANK YOU to everyone of you!!!! Those of you who have read, used and visited the site, interacted with Vital Wednesday on social media as you all make maintaining and updating this Wednesday fans website a lot more fun and worthwhile, heck even in the early hours after midweek matches.

To my team of writers, a big THANK YOU as without you this site would have been as up to date, fun or as successful as it’s been during the 16/17 season. That’s you Greg, Tom, Molly, Dan and Martin.

Bring on next season! and Bring on the Blunts, Barnsley, Villa and Leeds?
