The game at S6 was exactly as the gaffer had predicted. The final play-off spot was at stake for the Owls, whereas Neil Warnock`s Bluebird`s were playing purely for pride.

The former-blades man started the mind games way in advance of the 3pm kick-off on Good Friday. He had his Welsh boys training for the clash on Wombwell Main, so that the fans could come out and watch and made no attempt to deny his desire to beat Wednesday.

Carlos kept the focus very much on the match, saying in the pre-match conference, “It is Sheffield Wednesday vs Cardiff, that is all.”

On the pitch, Cardiff set out to frustrate Wednesday, taking plenty of time over set pieces. The Owls knocked the ball around nicely in the first half without finding the killer pass, with the visitors sitting deep and soaking up the pressure.
The fans were outstanding in the second half, particularly after Carlos made several attacking changes, introducing Forestieri, Rhodes and Nuhiu.

It was the former who latched on to a Jordan Rhodes shot, which was initially saved by McGregor, diving with his head to a loose ball. His celebration said everything. Passion, determination, patience, quality, three points, sixth place?

Onto QPR on Bank Holiday Monday and three more points for the Owls (we hope!)
