Carlos Carvalhal wasn’t happy after Wednesday succumbed to their second defeat in three at Hillsborough against misfiring Ipswich Town on Saturday (November 5th). The Portuguese head coach is hoping and arguably demanding a big improvement when the Owls resume their EFL Championship programme following the upcoming international break.

Speaking to swfc.co.uk the Owls boss said:

“It was an exception to the run that we have been on. The performance was a shadow of how we have been playing more recently.

“We played well and won at Huddersfield, we played well and drew at Cardiff, then we played well but lost at Derby.

“So we know we have not played well today and we need to be better, we need to be more aggressive all over the pitch.

“We certainly did not deserve to lose the game but we did not deserve to win it.”

Carlos ill be looking at the squad’s senior players to up their performance levels and maybe despite Lees and Hutchinson performances. Loovens is needed on the field as a leader, more than fans realise, he added:

“We must now give a good answer when we come back from the international break. We normally do this after a defeat and I am expecting the same.

“This is a strong competition and sometimes you can get points from games you do not expect and sometimes you can get nothing from games you expect to win.

“Today, we knew it would be tough because Ipswich play a very compact game and it was like playing against a wall.

“Sometimes we played round the left, then the right, we changed the formation but we could not find a way through.”
